But if you put it on a scale, it will weigh 8 ounces. As an example, if you have a 5 fluid ounce honey bear, it will displace 5 fluid ounces of liquid. Our honey bear bottles and other honey containers are measured by volume. If you don't want to read the whole article, here is a summary. You can find more information on the measurement of honey on this blog post. They are arboreal, built for the trees, equipped with prehensile tails and feet that can turn backwards so they can run up or down trees. In reality, the first honey bear was designed, manufactured, and sold in 1957 by Ralph and Luella Gamber, the founders of Dutch Gold Honey. But where did the idea for a bear-shaped honey container come from? Was it because of the beloved bear Winnie the Pooh, whose love of honey got him in stuck in tight spots? Installation was as simple as screwing a mounting bracket to the siding of my house for both the camera and the solar panel. ![]() In this case, it’s a small double-headed screwdriver, some screws, and a mounting plate. Just like the Doorbell, the Stick Up Cam comes with all the tools and hardware that you need to do the installation. By connecting a single cable and mounting the solar panel you can keep the unit fully charged. Nonetheless, Ring has developed a companion solar panel that can keep the camera fully charged at all times. That wasn’t my experience, so read on for more. With this device’s ability to produce live on-demand video streams, I expected minimal battery life, but Ring says the Stick Up Cam will last 6-12 months on a single charge. With the doorbell unit, a single charge lasts about 3-4 months. The Stick up camera is powered by a rechargeable (via mini USB) battery. That’s because Vectoraster shows you the results of your adjustments in real-time, in a single-window interface that’s quite easy to figure out. Vectoraster not only allows you to turn your images into vector halftone and line patterns, but it allows you to adjust the colors, hue, saturation, and density of the patterns as well. A host of other tools are also available that allow you to customize the results in almost any way you could need. The resulting raster is always shown, updating in real time as you change parameters. And if you have a group of images you wish to apply the same effects to, there’s batch processing available. I don’t plan to harp too much on tempos in this post but want you to at least get a brief introduction to it. It’s important to respect this topic mainly because it’s a drummer’s duty to keep time. Quarter note is the most common and is being used for this example. An eighth note or sixteenth note could be used instead. Please understand too that the note value can vary. Essentially, there will be 60 quarter notes played per minute (or in this specific example, 1 quarter note per second). This example tells us that the beats per minute (aka: bpm) is 60 and that a quarter note is the beat. The speed at which music is played is called the Tempo. We will definitely look into this more down the line. This may be the trickiest part of it all, but don’t let that hold you back if you’re not fully understanding it right away. Putting it that all together: 1) we have a quarter note as our beat and 2) there are 4 beats. That means the quarter note is what represents the beat. For the bottom number, look at it as a fraction. The top number tells us how many beats are in a measure. The time signature mentioned here is pronounced as “four-four” time, also called common time as it is in fact, the most common time signature used. As I mentioned earlier on, we are sticking to the basics here and will only work with 4/4 time signatures. Next we need to understand what defines a measure which brings us to Time Signatures. You may also hear this said as “two bars.” Time Signatures & Tempo Time Signatures Here is an example showing two Measures created by two Bar Lines. When notes and rests are placed on a staff they are then broken up into multiple sections called measures which are separated by bar lines, aka bars. We will touch more on this in just a little bit. That somewhere is called a Staff.Ī Staff is made up of five lines that will allow us to place notes to understand what part of the drums we are to play. ![]() Now in order to create a drum beat from all this, we have to place these notes and rests somewhere. If you’re reading this, you can clearly read right? If so, then there is nothing but yourself stopping you from learning how to read drum music. It will come with time just like learning how to read. Rests follow the same rules as notes but represent silence instead of sound.Īgain, do not be intimidated by this stuff. Notes, along with rests, will spell out how to play the beat. Think of it like this, notes are like letters that spell out a word. Notes are what create sound and are broken down as follows. That is it! There is definitely more to it but I don’t want you over thinking it. Notes and Restsĭrum beats are made up of two items: notes and rests. Once you understand the basics, everything else will fall into place, so let’s get to it. We will be sticking to mostly the basics (i.e. ![]() This guide is geared towards someone that is just starting off on this topic. Simply put, understanding and being able to read drum sheet music will help make you a better drummer and musician. Feel free to follow along on my YouTube and Instagram accounts as I post free drum beats along with the drum sheet music that goes with it! It can even be used as a tool to help you break down a drum fill from your favorite drummer. You can be more creative when making your own beats. You’re likely to learn how to play the drums faster. However, there is so much knowledge that can be used the sooner you learn how to read drum music. It probably seems much easier and less boring to just sit behind a drum kit and start playing (guilty of that myself). Do drummers have to be able to read drum music in order to play? You most certainly can learn to play the drums without knowing how to read drum sheet music. Learning how to understand and read drum sheet music, aka drum music and/or drum notation, can be very intimidating at first. ![]() ![]() Set variables to a new value for a sub-tree. Ukiyo-e-influenced flat designĪ ukiyo-e Super Mario by Chinese illustrator Wenyi Pan (Image credit: Wenyi Pan)Īnother trend that moved from interior design to graphic design is so-called Japandi, a combination of Japanese design and Scandi hygge. Largely associated with interior decor, it's making its way into graphic design too with elegant serif fonts, muted colours and careful placement for a sophisticated but cool maturity. Nineties nostalgia is manifesting itself in the use of Memphis design patterns, simple emojis, a primitive internet look, bright colour blocks, grainy textures and pixelated art, elements, that will feel all very familiar to some of us, but then there’s even what's been dubbed Frasurbane – a portmanteau of the 90s American sitcom Frasier and the word “urbane”. Of course, the nineties was a whole 10 years and didn't have just one aesthetic. Why now exactly? Perhaps partly because those who were young in the 90s are now in charge of making decisions, but there's also something comforting in the longing, idealized gaze backwards. We've seen 90s nostalgia emerging strongly in the past year, from Netflix’s Fear Street to Tamagotchi's resurrection in a smartwatch. With the appearance of anti-design, we can't help think back to the hazy days of the 90s (GeoCities anyone?). Yes, everything comes back round eventually, and sometimes it doesn't take so long. 90s nostalgiaĪustralian studio Universal Favourite’s work for cosmetics brand Youthforia positively drips with 90s nostalgia. But you also have seasoned designers who know the rules and are intentionally breaking them for the same reasons." 03. "It’s creating a more welcoming environment for those who aren’t 'classically' trained in design or who didn’t go to a big design school," she says. While anti-design isn't quite the wild west, it does open things up for none designers to challenge traditional gatekeeper, Veguilla-Lezan believes. Slovenian designer Nejc Prah went for a design "that felt a bit overwhelming" in his work for Boiler Room's System Restart festival to reflect the "diverse, overlapping, and constantly changing festival lineup," and it perfectly fit the post-lockdown mood. There's method behind the apparent chaos when it's done right, and it makes sense at a time of intense competition for the digital audience's attention. ![]() ![]() “The nature of it says do what you want - screw what traditional design rules say and create beyond the “design box” we’ve been given." Studio Nejc Prah's design for Boiler Room's System Restart festival feels "a bit overwhelming" (Image credit: Studio Nejc Prah)Īt the opposite end of the spectrum, there's a graphic design trend in 2022 that's eschewing minimalism completely. ![]() ![]() ![]() I wasn’t especially impressed with the variants of Ravenii.Because of that, the rescue missions are probably my least favorite type. You fight them all basically the same way, and even the abilities you can purchase and upgrade for Avil don’t do much to change up the combat. Other than one species that can fly, the special baddies are just larger, tougher versions of the smaller ones with more damage and hitpoints. The jackals themselves also don’t show a ton of variety. I don’t think every game needs to be Dark Souls, but when it seems like any encounter with a pack of human-sized jackal minions is best solved by button-mashing and hoping I’m hitting dodge and attack with the right ratio to do damage while not getting hit too often, each fight starts to feel more like a chore than a rewarding challenge. The combat on the ground is very floaty and arcadey in a Dynasty Warriors kind of way, as are the various glides, ziplines, and bounces off of awnings Avil can use to navigate levels vertically and horizontally. ![]() ![]() For the most part, I enjoyed the pacing and sense of tension this added. Civilian deaths and demolished buildings tick down the extinction meter, which causes you to fail the mission if you take too long. That final killshot is always satisfying.Your objectives in a given level can vary between saving a certain number of civilians by activating teleport crystals, killing a certain number of Ravenii or their man-sized minions, or keeping key structures intact until a timer runs out. It’s no fun, even when I’m not imagining the horrendous stench of monster sweat I’m subjecting our poor hero Avil to. It’s really easy to fall unexpectedly – or worse, get stuck in places like crotches and armpits, turning the camera into a surrealist nightmare. For one thing, climbing up the Ravenii often feels frustratingly imprecise. While that final killshot is always satisfying, especially if it’s just in time to save a group of civilians by mere inches, getting there isn’t always so rewarding. ![]() |
